In January 1938, to offer residents a cemetery to bury family members and loved ones, seven residents organized the Holly Hill Cemetery Association. Headed by Charles Henderson, the association developed Shady Rest Cemetery near the intersection of Granada Street and Moravia Avenue The original layout had a grand avenue leading from Riverside Drive into the cemetery.
