State Resources

  • Division of Alcoholic Beverage and Tobacco is responsible for licensing the alcoholic beverage and tobacco industries, for collection and auditing of taxes and fees paid by the licensees, and for enforcing laws and regulations of the alcoholic beverage and tobacco industries.
  • Division of Hotels and Restaurants (DHR) licenses, inspects, and regulates public lodging, and food service establishments. They also license and regulate elevators, escalators and other vertical conveyance devices.
  • Florida Commerce assists the Governor in advancing Florida’s economy by championing the state’s economic development vision and by administering state and federal programs and initiatives to help visitors, citizens, businesses, and communities.
  • Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), any business that affects the environment of Florida will more than likely be required to account for its impact. Issues such as surface and groundwater quality, wastewater treatment, solid and hazardous waste disposal, and natural resource habitat protection are just a few of the environmental concerns for which businesses are held accountable. The DEP is the lead agency in protecting our air, water, and land.
  • Florida Department of Revenue (FDR) goal is to dramatically increase the availability of information and services to taxpayers. Their website is full of valuable information about property and taxes.
  • The Florida High Tech Corridor Council (FHTCC) is a regional economic development initiative of the University of Central Florida (UCF), the University of South Florida (USF) and the University of Florida (UF) whose mission is to grow high tech industry and innovation through partnerships that support research, marketing, workforce and entrepreneurship.
  • CareerSource Flagler/Volusia and its partners at the Department of Economic Opportunity and the state’s 24 Regional Workforce Boards are working collaboratively to develop and deliver a globally competitive workforce that meets current and future needs of Florida businesses.

National Resources

  • Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Assistance is to ensure a level playing field and foster equal opportunity for firms owned and operated by disadvantaged individuals on USDOT-assisted contracts and procurement.
  • Internal Revenue Service, at the Federal level, each employer needs to establish an Employer Identification Number (EIN), also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number, which is used to identify a business entity. Generally, businesses need an EIN. This is a free service offered by the Internal Revenue Service.
  • International Gold Key Initiative, the U.S. Commercial Service arranges business meetings with pre-screened contacts representatives, distributors, professional associations, government contacts, and/or licensing or joint venture partners for international business.
  • Procurement Technical Assistance, electronic links to a wide variety of federal, state, and local government contacts for business decision makers who want to learn more about selling their products or services to the government.
  • Service Corps of Retired Executives, a nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and the formation, growth, and success of small business nationwide.
  • U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics measures labor market activity, working conditions, price changes, and productivity in the U.S. economy to support public and private decision making.
  • U.S. Small Business Administration is an independent agency of the federal government created to aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests of small business concerns, preserve free competitive enterprise, and to maintain and strengthen the overall economy of our nation.
