The Buildings and Grounds Department is responsible for the maintenance of all City buildings and structures, including docks and pavilions. This department also provides assistance in the set up and operations of special events, as well as the provision of activities related to disaster preparedness and response.

Buildings and Grounds staff maintain the City's parks, as well as, eleven retention ponds. In addition to the aesthetic benefits of park preservation, the maintenance of parks and retention ponds serve an impactful ecological function. Fountains installed in retention ponds increase water aeration, which increases the amount of oxygen in a body of water. Trees, grass and shrubbery found in parks assist in air purification and can also capture and filter rainwater – reducing the impact of stormwater runoff.
